The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) today issued a notice for next spectrum auction bidding date. The bidding for the next spectrum auction will start from March 1. This is the sixth round of spectrum auction for radiowaves worth Rs 3.92 crore. Last month, the Union Cabinet approved the DoT’s proposal to hold next spectrum auction by March 2021. In this spectrum auction, a total of 2,251.25 Megahertz (MHz) spectrum will be up for sale for a base price of Rs 3....

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is now offering more spectrum of certain bands in select circles. It recently amended its Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) for the spectrum auctions slated to be held on March 1, 2021. The telecom department has increased the airwaves offered in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz band. This has been done for select telecom circles only. Spotify Technology, the company engaged in the music streaming services on Wednesday said that it is “playing the long game” in the Indian market. The development was shared by Paul Vogel, CFO of Spotify Technology at the Goldman Sachs 29th Annual Communacopia Virtual Conference. The rates for installation of mobile towers, which have been recently revised by two Delhi municipalities, saw a massive spike from around Rs 2 lakh per tower for a five-year span to Rs 5 lakh per tower for a five-year period, a senior industry executive aware of the matter stated in conversation to the ET Telecom. The total smartphone production has hit 286 million units in the second quarter of the current year representing a 16.7% year-over-year (YoY) decline, TrendForce said in a report on Tuesday. The company engaged in the market intelligence reports said that the dip in the smartphone production was the “largest quarterly YoY drop in history.” However, TrendForce said that the smartphone production sequentially had a “slight” quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) 2.2% rebound. The company said that the dip in smartphone production was largely down to the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in governments across the world to impose border closures and regional lockdown....
