The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will reportedly approach the telecom regulator Trai to reduce the minimum prices set for the auction of 5G airwaves in the country. A person aware of the matter told Livemint that the DoT would soon ask Trai to reconsider the prices of 5G airwaves and the 700 MHz band spectrum that went unsold in the last two spectrum auctions. In the past, we have seen telecom operators Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea calling the reserve prices of 5G airwaves as ‘unaffordable....

The government is currently in process of creating a list of ‘trusted’ vendors for supplying core network equipment to the telcos. Chinese companies are seen as a cybersecurity threat by the government. Thus, the government is indirectly asking the telcos to refrain from awarding new contracts to Chinese vendors. June 15, 2021, is slated to be the date from when the telcos would be barred from sourcing any network gear from ‘non-trusted vendors....

The next-generation connectivity technology, 5G, is what 80% of Indian enterprises have kept on their priorities list. The data comes from Deloitte India, which surveyed 437 IT Line-of-Business (LoB) executives from nine different countries, out of which 51 subjects were from India. The study was carried out during the Q4 of 2020. According to the results of the survey, over 80% of Indian enterprises have kept 5G at the top of their priorities list, and over 73% of enterprises believe that Wi-Fi 6 is equally important....

The Supreme Court has today said that it wouldn’t allow re-computation or re-calculation of the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. However, if there’s any rectification that needs to be done, it might be allowed (this didn’t come directly from the SC). It is worth noting that the apex court had said that it wouldn’t allow reassessment of the dues; however, it didn’t say that if any errors are there, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) can’t correct it....

Indian telecom operators Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio registered an improvement in download speeds in the month of May as compared to April, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data reveals. The data released by TRAI is said to be generated using the authority’s MySpeedApp which is designed to measure data speed experience, signal strength and “other network information.” Reliance Jio has continued its position at the top of the charts in the 4G segment with the operator recording an average download speed of 14....
